KSI considers it our corporate responsibility to make a positive impact in the communities we serve. Community involvement keeps us connected with our employees, customers, and the needs of the communities we serve.
KSI employees are known and respected for their community involvement.
It is our mission to create opportunities, whether it is through supporting our local educational institutions, offering internal training programs, or participating in charitable events, we are passionate about helping people live better. Some of the causes we support affect families across all areas we serve.
KSI Community Involvement Includes:
Small Miracles Foundation
When your child is undergoing the struggle of dealing with pediatric cancer, you are always looking for the big miracle. But sometimes it is the Small Miracles that get you through and let you know that someone really cares.
Through the generous support of donors, Small Miracles Foundation accumulates resources to assist families in need with their daily challenges. By working with physicians and social workers at local hospitals and through community agency referrals, families and individuals with true needs are identified. Those who are identified are then prioritized based, upon the Foundation’s need assessment and availability of the Foundation’s resources. The final decision will always be at the discretion of the Foundations Board of Directors.
Providing transportation to get to the doctors, food on the table, or help with the electric bill are just some of the Small Miracles this Foundation provides. We believe in the process of people helping people and that helping families maintain dignity is not such a Small Miracle after all.
Bakersfield Memorial Hospital
The Lauren Small Children’s Medical Center at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital is the first comprehensive pediatric program in Kern County. This “hospital within a hospital” includes a 31-bed Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), an eight-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and a 20-bed Pediatric Unit with 24/7 in-house pediatricians (hospitalists).
The Lauren Small Children’s Medical Center is named in honor of Lauren Paige Small, daughter of Kevin and Tuesdy Small, who inspired our community through her brave two-year battle with cancer. The Lauren Small Children’s Medical Center offers comprehensive pediatric care in Bakersfield, CA which means fewer families have to travel long distances to children’s hospitals outside of the area to receive treatment.
Bakersfield Relay For Life
At Relay For Life events, communities across the globe come together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has already taken too much. The funds you raise truly make a difference in the fight against cancer – just ask one of the nearly 14 million cancer survivors.
In more than 5,200 communities and 20 countries, Relay For Life events comprise the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Each Relay For Life event is special to its community, but the movement’s true power lies in the combined commitment of thousands of participants, volunteers, and supporters to help the American Cancer Society save lives.
Every year, the Relay For Life movement raises more than $400 million. The American Cancer Society puts these donations to work, investing in groundbreaking research in every type of cancer, and providing free information and services to cancer patients and their caregivers. We’re fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer, in your community and everyone else’s.
